Most people became greedy the day they stepped into a Pentecostal church—or just church, generally. That was the day greed was presented as holiness wrapped in faith, breakthrough, and “kingdom prosperity.”
Before then, they were just average, maybe even content. But something changed. Now, in Nigeria, greed is the default setting.
People who will never think of killing for money still bow to the same spirit—just in milder forms. The average Christian today is discontent. Always chasing more. Never at rest. Always needing “one more level,” “next promotion,” “latest thing.”
The Scriptures say clearly—with food and clothing, be content. But nobody preaches that anymore. Instead, you hear: “Don’t limit yourself,” “The sky is not the limit,” “Expand your territory.”
But this is how the demon of greed enters. The spirit walks in sharply dressed with a briefcase full of money, and many pastors exchange their authority for cash. They sell their pulpits. And when he enters the church, the people reach for him like he’s Jesus—because you cannot serve God and mammon.
