The law of Moses is not the law of sin and death. People confuse them. The law of sin and death is what’s at work in your physical body—it’s the rule of sin in your life. That’s not the same as God’s law. Paul asked, “Has the law become death to me?” and answered himself, “Certainly not.” Yet, people keep saying the law is bad.
Paul said sin produced death through what is good—so the law, being good, only revealed how bad sin was. It wasn’t the law that produced death. It was sin using the law to expose itself. The law is spiritual. But we, people, are unspiritual—sold as slaves to sin.
He says clearly: “The law is spiritual, but I am unspiritual.” That’s the problem—not the law. The law is good, righteous, holy. Go read Deuteronomy 4—Moses, after 40 years in the wilderness, told the Israelites that no other nation had laws as good as theirs. But we’ve turned the law into a bad thing. Why? Ignorance. That’s all it is. Ignorance.
