If you want to grow fat spiritually, you must learn to separate yourself like the fattened calf. They don’t fatten calves by letting them roam freely; they set them apart and feed them specially. In the same way, you need seasons of seclusion with God—alone in your room, not rushing, not grabbing Psalms to “pray fire prayers,” but sitting with Him and His word.
Don’t go to the Bible like a thief, only looking for something to use in your prayers. Go with the heart of a child saying, “Father, thank You that I can come. Please talk to me.” Read with focus—set aside your phone. Begin with 30 minutes, then grow into one hour of undistracted reading. The key is to feed.
When you do this consistently, you’ll be shocked at how wisdom fills your heart. Many times, you’ll go to pray about an issue, and just by reading, God will give you the answer before you pray. That is the power of seclusion and feeding well on His word.
