Occupy the Space You Empty

When you get rid of an ungodly relationship, start a relationship with God immediately. Do not allow blank seasons. If you used to meet with someone daily or weekly, that same time should now be used to meet with the right people — Christians in a church meeting, a prayer meeting, or in fellowship.

Scripture says, “Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some.” (Hebrews 10:24–25). Use that same time to go before the Lord and kneel.

In the early stages of your walk with God, this will be difficult, but you must resist the defeat that comes from emptiness. Many believers make declarations like, “I will stop doing this,” but they never replace what they’ve stopped with something godly. The result is a vacuum that the enemy quickly fills.

God said He would not drive out Israel’s enemies all at once because His people needed time to repopulate, build strength, and train warriors. That principle remains true today. You cannot simply remove something evil and leave the space bare; it must be filled with something righteous.

When Israel drove out the Hittites, Jebusites, and other nations, they had to occupy those territories. The same applies spiritually — you must occupy what you empty. When you stop something that is ungodly, start something godly immediately. The space you clear must be filled, or darkness will reclaim it.
