James 5 says if one of you should wander from the truth, and someone brings you back, they have saved you from death. That means the one who wandered was a believer. “One of you” — that’s not an unbeliever. So this death he’s talking about is spiritual death.
The path of the Spirit — the narrow path — is called Truth.
The other one, the broad path, is called Lie.
The broad path is also called Flesh.
The narrow path is called Life.
Few walk in it, many walk in the other. These are the two roads before you every day.
You learn, over time, to take the narrow path. I’ve seen many succeed. I’ve also seen many keep taking the broad path, until they wandered so far, they died spiritually. All that teaching that says “once you’re saved, you can never lose your salvation” — this passage alone cancels it. James was talking to brothers and sisters. Real Christians can wander away and die spiritually if they refuse to return to truth.
