In Gospel of Matthew 7:24–27, we are told clearly: the rain came down, the streams rose, the winds blew and beat against the house. The storm did not avoid the wise man’s house. It also did not avoid the foolish man’s house. The storms come to all.
It is not the winds and the storms that identify one who loves the Lord. It is not the troubles, the trials, the opposition that say someone is of God. It is what they do in response to those trials which you have been promised will come. You cannot know who is wise or foolish until after the storm.
There is a temptation to think that by avoiding practice, by avoiding obedience, by avoiding soldiering, you will avoid trouble. No. The storm still comes. The rain, the streams, the winds—they come to all, whether you like it or not.
Go to a hospital and ask if all the people there are Christians. Go to a prison. Go to a cemetery. Stand in a pharmacy and ask each person at the door if they are born again. You will find out that trouble comes to all.
The issue is not trouble. The issue is ‘trouble-response.’ And trouble-response is determined by ‘Jesus-response.’
Proper Jesus-responses equip you to effectively trouble-respond. After you do what He says, you become storm-surviving. You are shaken, but you trust Him. The shakings come, and you are still standing where you were. Before that, talk is cheap.
You cannot avoid storms. You can only prepare to survive them. And preparation is obedience.
