A lot of the time when I’m praying for people, I begin to hear and pray about fear: “I rebuke fear. I ask for peace.” People are full of fears. All kinds of fears.
When you are afraid, you are not happy. Fear makes you miserable. The Bible says fear has torment. There are people bound to fear.
Some are not bound to fear in an obvious way. Some are bound to ignorance. If they knew their real situation, they would be afraid—but they don’t know.
There is good fear and there is bad fear. The bad fear is bondage, and not everyone’s bondage looks obvious.
Some of the people you think are the boldest are actually the most bound. The girl you see dressed in a way that looks fearless—you say she’s bold. No. She may be full of fear: fear of rejection, fear of not being accepted; so she does anything just to belong. She is covering fear with externals.
What are the things that take us captive? Forces greater than us. Influences that have been before us. They seek to enslave.
Sometimes they manifest clearly as spiritual attacks. Some of you at night experience things pressing you. You don’t like to sleep. You are afraid of the night. Nobody needs to tell you that is captivity.
Some of you are grateful every morning just because you woke up. Not because you are sick physically, but because of what you encounter in the night. That is captivity. Yet people walk around acting normal, pretending all is well.
