You’ve been taught to give yourself pep talks against reality. “I’m a child of God. I cannot sin.” Meanwhile, you’ve got three girlfriends and a wife, all at the same time. Stop denying reality.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. He won’t work with you if you lie to yourself. Jesus didn’t tell the woman caught in adultery to pretend—He told her, “Go and sin no more.”
Paul didn’t say, “Sin no longer exists in me.” He said, “Sin lives in me. In my flesh, nothing good dwells.” That’s truth. If you want God to help you, agree with the truth. Stop twisting Scripture to excuse your sin; start confronting it so God can help you overcome it.
