Some of the enemies we face are not spectacular. They are quiet. Doubt. Anxiety. Fear. Selfishness. Witchcraft flows from selfishness—manipulation, control, wrong influence. False religion. Discontentment.
Many believers do not understand why they are never satisfied. No matter what God does, they are unhappy. That is discontentment. And discontentment is not neutral. When you allow it to take root, it produces movement, grumbling, murmuring. Scripture makes it clear; these things attract judgment.
1st Corinthians 10 records this clearly. People died in large numbers because of grumbling. 24000 in one instance. 14700 in another. Fire broke out in another case. These were not small consequences. Grumbling was treated seriously by God.
Why? Because grumbling is never just against the human leader. The people never said they were grumbling against God. They always pointed at Moses or Aaron. But God never addressed it that way. He always said, “You are grumbling against me.” Every single time.
Moses was often begging God on their behalf, standing in the middle, pleading. But God was never confused about the source of the sin. The people themselves were never confused either. After mass judgments, they never said, “We didn’t talk to God.” They knew exactly who they were dealing with.
Discontentment can be godly or ungodly. Godly discontentment moves you out of Saul’s house into David’s. Ungodly discontentment grumbles while staying put under David. One leads to alignment. The other leads to rebellion and judgment.
