Jonathan dipped his staff into honey, tasted it, and his eyes brightened. That’s what honey does. That’s what wisdom and truth do — they open your eyes.
Proverbs says, “Eat honey, my son, for it is good. The honeycomb is sweet to your taste” (Proverbs 24:13). Honey brings clarity. It energizes you.
But Saul’s foolish oath had cut his soldiers off from honey. That’s what religious control does — it forbids the very things that give you strength. Today, many people are weakened because leaders told them to avoid other believers, other ministries, anything outside their narrow stream. But if it strengthens you in the Lord, why reject it?
You don’t have to listen to everyone. But don’t let bitterness make you blind. Some can’t receive truth anymore — not because it’s wrong, but because they hate who said it. That’s not discernment.
Real honey makes you see clearly. If what you’re hearing opens your understanding, strengthens your faith, and leads you to the fear of the Lord — eat it. God gave it to brighten your eyes.
