…In 1 Kings 20:20, there is a very important principle. The Bible says each man struck down his own opponent. Notice the wording: his own opponent.
In battle, the army of Israel moved forward together, but each soldier faced the enemy standing directly in front of him. No one crossed the battlefield to fight someone else’s opponent. They fought the one standing opposite them. That is the principle.
Victory comes when everyone takes responsibility for the opponent assigned to them.
Many losses among God’s people happen because people ignore their own opponent and start analyzing their neighbour’s opponent. While they are talking about someone else’s battle, the enemy in front of them strikes them down.
Your responsibility is the opposition placed before you. What is opposing you? What difficulty is in front of you? Nobody runs across the battlefield in the middle of war looking for a different fight.
Imagine a soldier moving sideways through the battlefield saying, “Excuse me, excuse me, I’m looking for another enemy to fight.” That is not how war works.
The enemy in front of you is the one you were assigned to defeat. When you strike that opponent down, it benefits the entire army of God. One victory strengthens everyone. That is exactly what happened with David and Goliath.
David defeated the greatest obstacle. The moment Goliath fell, the entire Philistine army collapsed in fear and Israel pursued them. One opponent fell, and the cascade effect began.
You must identify the opponent in front of you and bring it down. That is your responsibility in the kingdom.
