In Judges 7, Gideon had 300 men. The Midianites settled across the land like locusts. No one counts locusts. Yet, 300 men were retained and the rest were sent home in obedience to God.
In 1st Kings 20, there were 232 junior officers and 7,000 Israelites who defeated a massive army of 33 kings and their armies. God does not need numbers, He needs obedience.
In the NIV rendering of Judges 7:8, it says the 300 took over the provisions and trumpets of the others. That is fascinating. You may not need people, but you need trumpets. You need voices. You need provision. Sustenance. Strengthening.
The trumpet is a wind instrument. It functions by breath. The Spirit—pneuma—breath.
God needs people who will yield to His breath so He can blow through them; those who will declare as He blows. Stop thinking of numbers, think of trumpets. A few trumpets blown properly according to God’s will, yielded to His breath, are enough to sway everything. Even if they are only 300 against an uncountable army, they will suffice.
God needs yielded instruments, not crowds.
