In the Garden of Eden, there was no sickness. There was no death. Sickness entered the world after sin entered. Romans 5:12 explains that death came through sin, and sickness is a manifestation of death.
Sickness often precedes death, though not everyone who is sick dies immediately. The body enters a state of decay. Healing exists because of the fall. Healing is God’s response to death working in the human body.
God’s provision is not to remove death entirely now, because everyone will eventually die. The provision is healing along the way. Not to be sick endlessly, but to be sustained while living in a fallen body.
Healing is God saying, “While you are in this body, I will help you. I will sustain you. I will keep you functioning.”
Healing is also covenantal. Deuteronomy 7:15 says God will keep His people free from disease. Disease exists around, but God removes it from His people. There are those who bear the full weight of sickness, and there are those from whom God takes it away.
“I am the Lord who heals you” is connected to obedience. Scripture says that if you pay attention to His commands and do what is right in His eyes, healing follows.
God heals bodies. God heals hearts. God heals minds. There is no reason for Him not to. Ignorance is a major obstacle to healing. That is why teaching matters. Understanding removes obstacles and allows people to enjoy what God has already made available.
