Most Christians don’t understand why the Bible says we should rejoice when persecuted. They think it’s a suggestion to be strong emotionally. But Jesus said you should rejoice and be glad because something is being attached to you when people reproach you—not because you did wrong, but because of Him. Peter said the Spirit of glory rests on you when people mock or insult you for Christ. This is not something you see physically now.
Jesus Himself didn’t look glorious physically. Isaiah 53 said He had no beauty that anyone should desire Him. Yet when He went up the mountain with Peter, James, and John, you saw the outward expression of the glory He actually carried. That’s a small picture of what many believers will look like in the coming age. Many who were despised and insulted on earth will shine with real glory.
There will be levels of glory just like Paul described—one glory of the sun, another of the moon, another of the stars. These distinctions will show in the age to come. Some believers will shine like the sun, others like stars. And when they appear, creation will respond. This is why I often say that some people will be recognized in the coming age the way people now recognize authority figures. But the difference is that this glory cannot be bought with money.
The glory you collect through persecution and faithfulness in this age will last thousands of years—far beyond your earthly lifetime. People will see you and say, “He is one of them,” and immediately bow. You will walk into a region and creation itself will respond. And this is why failing the money test and refusing reproach is so dangerous. People cling to money and comfort now, not knowing they are trading away glory that lasts far longer than anything in this world.
