Many Christians live daily under attack without even realizing they’re in a war—or worse, without knowing who their enemy is.
The first rule of warfare, even in the natural, is to know your enemy.
Yet, the average believer hasn’t been taught how to fight, much less who they are fighting.
Most Christians assume their enemies are people. They might label someone a witch, a troublemaker, or simply blame their problems on poverty, systems, or circumstances.
But the Bible paints a clearer picture: these visible things are not the true enemy.
The Word of God identifies three major enemies of the Christian:
The Devil – Called “the enemy of your soul,” Satan is the primary adversary. The term “Satan” literally means “opponent” or “adversary.”
His mission is to resist and oppose anything that brings life and light.
The World – This includes the systems, values, and desires that contradict God’s ways. The apostle John lists the components of the world’s seduction as the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1 John 2:16).
The Flesh – Perhaps the most overlooked enemy is the internal one. The flesh—your own carnal nature—is constantly at odds with the Spirit.
It lives inside you, and many battles are lost not because of the devil outside, but the desires within.
Jesus said that a man’s enemies will be those of his own household (Matthew 10:36).
Spiritually, this applies deeply: the “household” of your own being can house your fiercest enemy.
