King Saul inquired of the Lord. But God didn’t answer him—not by dreams, not by the Urim, not by prophets. Why? Because Saul had killed the voice of God in his life. He murdered the priests—the carriers of the Urim. He cut off his source of divine direction.
That’s what happens when you attack the people God uses to speak to you. Your words can be a sword. You speak carelessly against people you know God speaks through—not just preachers; brethren, relatives too. You slander those through whom God has spoken to you before. The voice of the Lord you used to hear clearly now feels distant.
Don’t shut the door on God’s channels. In a church meeting, come saying, “Lord, speak through your servant.” That’s how you receive the legitimate, present-day application of God’s word.
If you want God’s voice to remain clear in your life, then honor the instruments He uses. You don’t get to mistreat God’s messengers and still expect consistent answers from heaven.
