The scriptures testify about Him. That is their purpose. Jesus said, “You search the scriptures because you think you have eternal life; these are the very scriptures that testify about Me.” If you want to know your God, if you want to know what your God expects of you, if you want to know what the true God wants, you go to these writings.
Reading the Bible is the way to understand Him. The Lord left 66 books behind. Will you take the time to read them? They talk about Him. They reveal His character, His plans, and what He requires from you.
To testify about someone means to bear witness. It’s like saying, “I know this person. We were classmates. She was generous. She was kind. I have seen her character.” That is testimony. But testimony is not always pleasant. Sometimes it warns you. Sometimes it tells the truth you may not want to hear. That is still testimony.
When the scriptures testify about Jesus, many do not realize that a lot of it is severe. If you want to see a “bloody” testimony of Him, look at the book of Revelation. You see Him as a warrior, coming back to judge, to destroy, to enforce justice. It didn’t start there. Isaiah talks about Him in similar ways. He describes His suffering, His pain, the joy He will bring, the deliverance, the mercy, the salvation, and also His return as a mighty judge.
Isaiah 63:1 says, “Who is this coming from Edom, from Bozrah, with garments stained crimson? Who is this, robed in splendor, striding forward in the greatness of His strength?” The answer: “It is I, proclaiming victory, mighty to save. I have trodden the winepress alone; their blood splattered my garments; it was the day of vengeance for me to redeem them.”
Scripture does not sugarcoat. It shows Jesus’ power, His mercy & His judgment. Not every testimony of Jesus is “nice,” but every testimony of Him in scriptures is true.
