The story of the golden calf in Exodus 32 illustrates the earthly Jerusalem. When Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people grew impatient. They said to Aaron, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses, who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.” They refused to wait for God’s timing and made their own solution.
This impatience is always a hallmark of the earthly Jerusalem. It produces a son of bondage, involves haste, pride, and the refusal to wait on God. They make their own plans, construct idols, and rely on human solutions instead of God.
We see the same pattern in churches today. People wait for a pastor or a prayer team to give a word, but impatience rises. Excitement builds, money is thrown in, commitments are made, and tasks are executed—but God is absent. Everyone is contributing, organizing, and celebrating. They have made a golden calf to go before them.
The enemy uses this impatience deliberately. He knows that when people rush, they compromise, misplace trust, and end up in bondage. The attitude to have is the same as Moses’ principle: if you die, you die; if you perish, you perish. God’s method is always patient and deliberate. The earthly Jerusalem rushes, the heavenly Jerusalem waits.
This is how you know which Jerusalem you are aligned with. Impatience, haste, and creating your own solutions reveal the earthly Jerusalem. Waiting, submission, and obedience reveal the heavenly Jerusalem.
