Scriptures say our God is a God who hides Himself. There are many things about Him that cannot be seen on the surface. Even human beings, whom He made as weak and fragile as we are, can have all sorts of secrets. You could be around someone and not know a hundred of them. How much more the God who made all things? Isaiah 45:15 says, “Truly, you are God who hides yourself, O God of Israel, the Savior.”
The Scriptures state that He covers Himself in dark clouds, even when He speaks, He speaks in dark sayings. Psalm 78 confirms that not everything about God is plain or obvious. Wise people understand this.
Little children start hiding things early, hiding in plain sight, because their brains are already working that way. If that is in us, how much more in the eternal God? Some things God hides, He doesn’t do it to confuse us, but in kindness, because if we knew, we would melt.
Deuteronomy 29:29 says, “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.” There are secret things that belong to Him, and revealed things that belong to us. Why does God reveal anything at all? Only so that we may obey Him better. The secrets of God are not for personal gain but to enable obedience.
