The heart is the battlefield where the enemy wages war. Matthew 15:18-20 tells us, “But what comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and this defiles a man.” It’s not what enters your mouth that defiles you, but what’s inside — evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual immorality, lies, blasphemy.
When your heart is defiled, the enemy gains access. This is why guarding your heart is so crucial. It’s not enough to pray against sickness or financial lack alone. You must fight the unseen attacks of anger, lust, unforgiveness, fear, and pride that silently chip away at your soul.
The Watchman’s role is to sound the alarm on these internal attacks. If you see someone struggling with anger or unforgiveness, tell them to guard their heart. If you notice pride creeping in, warn them. The enemy comes first for the heart — because once the heart is captured, everything else follows.
Satan knows that your heart is where the battle is won or lost. Even when he tempted Jesus, he didn’t threaten His life directly — he attacked His heart and mind first with temptation.
Think about it: Satan offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and their glory if He would only bow down. This was a direct attack on pride and desire, not on Jesus’ physical body. And Jesus rejected it — because the pride of life is where defeat begins.
Satan’s attacks often come quietly — through lust, envy, bitterness, and lies. If you can protect your heart, you can stand firm against these attacks. The real enemy is internal — fight the battle from within.
