When a soldier sells his services to whoever will pay him, there is a name for that kind of person. He is called a mercenary. A mercenary is a gun for hire.
He does not belong to any army. He fights for whoever hires him. If he dies in battle, there is no nation obligated to avenge him. No army claims him as their own. He is alone.
Spiritually, some people operate like this. They attach themselves temporarily wherever it benefits them. They move wherever the opportunity seems best. They are not truly accountable anywhere. That is dangerous.
There is a difference between being sent and simply showing up. When someone is sent, there is authority behind them. There is spiritual backing. The assignment carries legitimacy.
This happens even in ministry. Sometimes people are sent to help another church or support another work. That sending creates a spiritual covering for what they are doing.
But try to do the same thing without being sent, and you may encounter serious problems.
Because in the spirit realm there is order and there is disorder. Accountability protects you. Wise people understand this.
Even when God speaks to you personally about something, there is still value in confirmation and alignment with authority. Sometimes the person over you may say, “Yes, go.” Sometimes they may say, “Wait.” Sometimes they may say, “No.”
As long as that authority carries a legitimate mandate from God, their guidance matters. It is part of how God keeps the army functioning properly.
