Jonathan did not know his father had made a foolish oath — “No one should eat until I’ve avenged my enemies.” But Jonathan ate honey, and his eyes brightened. When Saul found out, he said Jonathan must die.
This is Saul’s madness — a man who obeys God partially, disobeys crucial instructions, and then covers his disobedience with dramatic sacrifices or random “spiritual” acts.
He hunted witches — good. But he also killed Gibeonites, broke ancient covenants, and wiped out priests. He saved Israel once — yes — but then turned and tried to kill David and Jonathan. This is the spirit of Saul: inconsistent obedience mixed with self-willed authority.
Don’t be like Saul. Don’t be the kind of Christian who chooses when to obey and when to ignore God. You can’t pretend submission — you’re either under authority or you’re in rebellion.
