Let’s go to David’s story in 1 Samuel 16. God told Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul? I have rejected him. Fill your horn with oil and go. I’ve chosen one of Jesse’s sons.” All of us have a Saul nature. This is the part of your life that once ruled you—old habits, old attitudes, old ways. God wants to dethrone that part and replace it with a David nature, a heart after God.
Your inner Saul wants to be king, but it misbehaves. It disobeys. It leads you wrongly. God wants to raise a David inside you, someone who listens, someone He can work with. This is personal. Every believer experiences this replacement. God identifies the wrong king in your life and begins the process of removing him.
Samuel was afraid to go because Saul could kill him. And this is exactly how that Saul part of you behaves. It doesn’t want to give up power. It fights. It resists. When God begins to shift things inside you, your old ways may kick back hard. But God insists: “I have chosen another.”
God sends His word, He sends His instructions, and little by little, He replaces the old king with the new one.
