What do you think happens when a church group or family becomes part of Babylon? Why do you think they do the wonderful evil they do? People look and say, “How can a Christian do that?” You don’t understand. There is nothing you can’t do if you’re a Babylonian.
So if a pastor and congregation join the alliance of Babylonian churches, all those things you hear — all sorts of perversion, the evils you hear about in some big church from some famous preacher — and you wonder, “I heard that in that church they do this.” Why are you wondering? Here’s your answer: they are in Babylon. They have slept and drank the wine of her fornication. They have shared in her sins. They are surrounded by all kinds of impure spirits.
You say, “I’m born again.” You’re born again, but you’re drinking Babylon’s wine, sharing in her goodies. You can’t avoid her. She’s a prison. Those things will jump on you.
So when they say that preacher has a terrible secret life — he goes after all kinds of things, he’s wild, he can’t seem to help himself — it comes with the territory. “Is he still a man of God?” He was, and in a sense he is. But he’s a man of God allied with Babylon. He had a calling but he did not come out of Babylon, so Babylon submerged him with her detestable spirits.
This is why you don’t just tell people to pursue power and a calling. You tell them to be holy, to come out of the world. The erroneous gospel emphasizes what you carry and downplays where you are spiritually. You must do both. Christ in us, the hope of glory — yes — but where you are can submerge that when you have not obeyed fully.
