The reason you must learn all truth directly from the Scriptures, rather than from what “Pastor so-and-so” says, is because truth is not determined by who seems right or who has the bigger congregation. That is not what decides whether something is true.
What determines truth is whether it is breathed by the Spirit — whether it comes from the Spirit’s breath. “The words I am giving you are spirit and life” (John 6:63). All Scripture is given by the Spirit of God (2 Timothy 3:16) and is profitable for teaching. When someone merely shares an opinion or selects one or two verses out of context, they will miss the truth. But when you see it clearly in Scripture, what you receive is called truth — and that truth is what makes you free.
