Why do we gather? Because the Father asks that we should gather. How often should we gather? As often as possible. Who should gather? All who call on the name of the Lord. What should happen when we gather? His name should be exalted and His will should be revealed.
Hebrews 10:24–25 makes this clear: we should not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encourage one another, all the more as we see the day approaching. Verse 24 adds: “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” The emphasis is on good deeds, or as the King James says, good works.
This is the reason we gather. Everything that happens — testimonies, singing, praise, the prophetic ministry, intercession, prayers — all of it should push us toward one thing: to love God more, to love people more, and to go and do good works.
If you hear a message that produces no action in you, something has failed. Either the preacher did not preach properly, or you did not hear properly. To hear but do nothing is failure. The purpose of gathering is to provoke us toward love and good deeds.
