You read, “Let him lead me to the banquet hall and let his banner over me be love”—and you’re already setting tables and lighting candles. No. That banquet is in the future.
Didn’t Jesus talk about a banquet? A king arranging a feast for his son? He said it plainly in Matthew 26:29: “I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” That’s not now. That’s then. That’s the kingdom. The real kingdom. And if you’ve looked around lately, you’ll know—we are not there yet.
After the resurrection, He ate fish and honeycomb—no wine. Bread and fish by the sea—no banquet spread. Why? Because we’re not feasting yet. We’re fighting. We’re still in the war phase, not the wedding phase.
This doctrine that says, “We’re already in the kingdom age”—look around you. Which kingdom age? When the lion is still roaring? When temptation still devours the careless? No sir. No ma’am.
This is not the kingdom feast. This is the battleground. This is where you stay on guard.
The banquet comes after the battle.
The wine flows after the wounds.
The songs rise after the swords are down.
But for now—stay alert. Stay sober.
Don’t bring out your dancing shoes when it’s time to put on your armor.
There is a day we will dine with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
But until then—we war. And we watch.
