Using Your Gift Well

Every gift can be developed through labor. Teaching, for example, requires hard work. Some teach once a week and stop there, but others pour themselves out. Charles Spurgeon taught and wrote tirelessly, reaching millions. John Wesley preached from place to place, on horseback, reading his Bible as he traveled. They didn’t bury their gifts; they multiplied them.

Whatever your gift is — teaching, giving, encouragement, administration — you are meant to labor with it. You might think, “They don’t even appreciate me,” but you’re not serving people; you’re serving your Master. Use your gift faithfully.

Even something as simple as keeping things neat could be your grace. But when you only use it for your room and not for the house of God, you’ve buried it. You’re withholding what belongs to the body. When the Lord returns, He will ask what you did with what He gave you. Don’t be the servant cast out for doing nothing. Be the one who worked and multiplied what you were entrusted with.
