Pride is one of the most dangerous forms of bondage. Pride keeps people from ever agreeing they are wrong. Pride is why Jesus’ opponents in John 8 escalated their argument until they ended up accusing Jesus Himself of being demon possessed. These were people who believed in Him (John 8:31), yet pride pushed them to the point of calling Him a Samaritan with demons (John 8:48). That is how pride behaves.
Jesus handled the woman-caught-in-adultery case with wisdom. He didn’t confront the Pharisees aggressively. He told them, “Let the one without sin cast the first stone,” then He bent down and left space for conscience to work. If He had stood over them, confronting them, they would have pushed back with pride and stoned the woman out of stubbornness.
Some of you don’t see repentance in people because you don’t give God room to convict them. You confront and confront them until pride rises fully. Jesus knew to step aside.
