Spiritual trees brings forth spiritual fruit. Galatians 5 lists it clearly. If your life is producing what Paul calls the works of the flesh—sexual immorality and all that nonsense—then that is evil fruit. It does not matter how long you have been in church. Fruit is fruit. Works of the flesh are works of the flesh. But the fruit of the Spirit, from verse 22, is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are the fruits God is looking for.
Do you have these? Are they increasing? Are people benefiting from your life? Are you enduring people? Are people learning love from you? Are people experiencing patience, kindness, and stability when they are around you? This is not theory. This is practical. This is what fruit looks like.
God wants trees that put forth His kindness to many. Not trees that only have leaves. Not trees that only look busy. Trees that actually feed people. If there is nothing coming out of your life that others can eat, something is wrong. And if you are honest, you can deal with it.
God is asking for fruit and fruit is visible. People can point to your fruit and say, “Thank God for this person.” If nobody can say that yet, then you have work to do. And that work begins with allowing God to deal with your life seriously.
