One of my significant weaknesses has been hesitation. I know what it means to hesitate because you are afraid of how something will look.
There was a time when I was very timid about doing the things I knew I should do. I would think about what people would say. I would wonder how I would appear.
Meanwhile, people are smoking openly, carrying people to their houses for immoral acts, doing all kinds of things, and you are wasting time wondering what somebody would think.
Who cares how it appears?
The man in the parable who received one talent had an explanation for what he did. He said he was afraid. He blamed the master and said he knew that he had reaped where he did not sow.
But instead of simply admitting, “I am a coward, and I allowed my cowardice to dictate my life,” he had another explanation.
That is a more honest thing to say about many of the things we do.
Fear stops us from doing God’s way. Discouragement stops us. The opinion of people stops us. Our past experiences stop us. Sometimes hesitation stops us.
But if God has enabled you to do something, you need to engage with it.
You may say, “What if nothing happens?” You may say, “What if people laugh at me?” You may say, “What if it does not work?” But if you keep waiting until you can see everything before you obey, you will not see everything.
You need to trust God enough to obey Him when you see nothing.
I regretted the opportunities I did not use well.
I have told people that if I went back to university with what I know now, I would do ten times more. So many more people could have been reached. So many more things could have happened.
That is why I do not want you to make the same mistake.
Do not let pride, fear, discouragement, or people’s opinions determine what you do with what God has given you. Let simple obedience determine it.
