What is the secret of the soldier?
He is under something.
The word is ‘hupotasso’, from ‘hupo’, meaning under, and ‘tasso’, meaning to arrange or place in order. Think about soldiers who are lined up or assigned to a post. You fall in under your assigned place.
There is something about obeying God that gives you confidence. I know the feeling of obeying God and the confidence it gives. When you live properly under God, there is a confidence that comes with it.
Many people cannot have proper faith because they do not live properly. They are not under anything. They want authority, but they do not want submission. They want to command, but they do not want to be arranged in their assigned place.
But you cannot break ranks and still expect everything to function properly.
When you are in the army, your personal size does not determine whether the command will be obeyed. Imagine one hundred soldiers standing together. If the person in authority gives the command for everyone to lie down, they all lie down. It does not matter that the person giving the command is also a human being.
He may be a man, and you are a man, but he has authority. That is why you must understand authority.
God has called His people soldiers because He wants them to serve Him actively. He wants you to carry your own weight. You are not a victim wandering through life. You have a place. You have an assignment.
You must be in your own place. You must stand in the place you are appointed. You must align yourself. You must arrange yourself. You must not break ranks.
If you are always outside your assigned place, doing whatever you want, you will not understand the confidence that comes from obedience.
The soldier does not arrange himself according to his feelings. He falls under his assigned place.
You must do the same.
Be under God. Be in your place. Do not break ranks.
