Authority does not drop from the sky because you are gifted. This is something you must understand.
You can have gifts. You can have words of knowledge, visions, revelations, prophetic giftings, the gift of healing and other things that God has given you. But your gifting is not the same thing as authority.
Think about the difference between a soldier and a general.
The soldier has his gun. That is his power. The general has a different kind of authority. He does not have to carry a rifle around. He can simply give a command, and hundreds or thousands of soldiers move according to what he says.
One is power. The other is authority. The word for power is dunamis. The word for authority is exousia.
Think of a truck coming down the road. One man can stand in front of that truck and raise his hand, and the truck slows down and stops. That is authority. It is not because the man is naturally stronger than the truck. There is something behind the command.
In the army of God, you are meant to be a soldier. You will have gifts and opportunities to serve God, but you have to understand where authority comes from.
Authority is acquired in one place alone: by years of hupotasso, standing under submission in your place.
You cannot simply say, “I am gifted, therefore I have authority.”
You must be under something. You must be arranged. You must stand in the place where God has appointed you.
That is why the soldier is such an important picture. The soldier is not independent. He has an assigned place. He has a commander. He is under authority.
If you want to serve God effectively, do not focus only on the gifts you have. Learn submission. Learn to obey God. Learn to remain in your assigned place.
Your gifts are what God has given you to use. But do not confuse your gifts with authority.
Power and authority are not the same thing. You need to understand both.
