You are not sent to look rich. You are sent to preach the Word of God. If you are not wealthy, don’t waste money trying to create an appearance of wealth. Don’t wear expensive things simply to make people think that you have money when you do not.
I went through dryness and difficult times, but I did not starve. My family did not go naked, and my children were not chased out of school. There were times when things were not easy, but God provided. I continued preaching the same things I had always preached.
Nothing I am saying has changed with time. I was preaching these things when I was younger, and I was even more fiery then. I was telling people to give to their roommates and to help those around them. I preached it so thoroughly that people stopped bringing offerings to church for months.
You must not change what you preach because you are now facing financial difficulties. You must not begin saying things that are different from what you know to be true because you want money. You must not allow poverty to make you compromise the Word of God.
If God sent you, trust Him to provide as you obey Him. He can make church members bring you food and meet other needs in different ways. That does not mean you should be careless or refuse help.
There is nothing wrong with a servant of God receiving material support. But receiving support is different from pretending to be wealthy or manipulating people to obtain money.
Stay in your condition. Don’t waste money trying to look like what you are not. You are sent to preach the Word, and you must continue to tell the truth.
