Did God Send You to Fight That Battle?

I have no problem with prayer and spiritual warfare. But I have one question: did God send you?

Some people go to places and begin declaring that everywhere they set their feet, they claim the land and pull down the ruling powers.

They fast, pray, and organise warfare programmes because that is what they were taught. But have they inquired of God?

Did He send them to do what they are doing, or are they simply following a pattern they learned from someone else?

You must understand that there is a proper time and procedure for every matter (Ecclesiastes 8:5–6). Do not assume that because you love God, you can do anything you want in the spiritual realm.

Look at King Josiah. God had spoken about him through a prophecy given approximately 300 years earlier (1 Kings 13:1–2; 2 Kings 23:15–20).

Josiah carried out a great revival and fulfilled what God had spoken concerning the altar at Bethel. But later, he went out to fight Pharaoh Necho of Egypt. Necho told him that God had instructed him to do what he was doing and warned Josiah not to interfere. Josiah did not heed the warning, went into battle, and was fatally wounded (2 Chronicles 35:20–24).

Josiah was a king who had done great things for God, but that did not mean he could ignore God’s warning in that particular situation.

This is why you must not assume that every battle is yours to fight. You may see something happening and feel the urge to intervene, but have you asked God whether He sent you?

The Bible says that all things were created through Christ and for Him, whether thrones, dominions, principalities, or powers (Colossians 1:16). Jesus is the head of all principality and power (Colossians 2:10).

When you undertake spiritual assignments, seek God’s direction rather than acting solely on what you have been taught or what you feel compelled to do.

So, before you launch that prayer warfare project or begin declaring that you are pulling down the powers over a territory, ask yourself: Did God send me?

Do not confuse enthusiasm with divine instruction. Love God, pray, and obey Him, but do not try to do what He has not sent you to do (Jeremiah 23:21).
