A soldier doesn’t negotiate.
2 Timothy 2:3 says, “Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.”
Nobody likes suffering. But if you’re going to be a good soldier, know there is no good soldier who hasn’t suffered. In fact, some soldiers don’t survive the battle.
What kind of soldier are you?
Someone was telling me about the discipline of a soldier. A soldier can be lying in a bush, and a snake starts crawling over him. What do you do?
You don’t just jump up because you are uncomfortable. If you are hidden and on a mission, you lie still. The snake crawls past.
That is why you should respect soldiers. There is something that suffering produces in someone.
When a soldier says, “Bloody civilian,” this is what is going through his mind: You don’t know what it means to be told to jump in any direction and do it.
You don’t know what it means to be given an instruction and obey it without questions.
A soldier doesn’t say, “Please, it’s 2:00 a.m. I want to go and sleep now.”
Little persecution hits you, and you run. Then you disobey the rules you were given.
You can’t pray your way into being a soldier. You obey your way into it. And I can assure you, there will be suffering.
So when the instruction from God comes, don’t negotiate with it.
You don’t get to decide which parts of soldiering you like and which parts you don’t.
If you are a soldier, you obey.
