Many believers dream of doing great things for God. They want to preach, lead, counsel, disciple, and fight great battles for the Kingdom.
But they ignore the battlefield that determines whether they will stand or fall: the battlefield within.
Joshua conquered Canaan one territory at a time. Yet before Israel could possess the land around them, they first had to deal with what stood in front of them. The same is true of us.
Stop trying to conquer external territories while leaving your own mind occupied by the enemy.
Your mind is territory God gave you. Your thoughts are not public property. They belong to Christ. Every argument that exalts itself against the knowledge of God is an invader.
Every fantasy that pulls you away from obedience is an occupying force. Every lie you entertain gives the enemy room he was never meant to have. (2 Corinthians 10:3–5)
Many people are eager for ministry but careless with meditation. They want authority over demons while their own thoughts are ruled by fear, lust, bitterness, pride, or unbelief.
God does not overlook the condition of your inner life because you appear effective outwardly.
Look at David. No enemy could stand against him on the battlefield. The Philistines could not stop him. The Ammonites could not stop him.
Nation after nation fell before him. Yet he lost a battle on his own rooftop. No army defeated him there. His own desires did.
The consequences were devastating. Immorality. Murder. Rebellion within his own household. His son violated his daughter. Another son murdered his brother. Another rose against him and seized the throne.
David continued to win many public battles, but the greatest defeats of his life came from the territory he failed to guard within. (2 Samuel 11–18)
Do not measure victory merely by what people can see. It is possible for people to applaud your ministry while heaven sees a neglected battlefield inside your heart.
God is calling His people back to the primary battle. Before you seek influence, seek mastery over your thoughts.
Before you seek authority over cities, seek authority over your own mind. Before you fight enemies outside, drive the enemies out of the territory God has already assigned to you.
Win the battle within first. Then the battles without will be fought from a place of strength instead of hidden defeat.
