Every day, you face choices that test your walk. Someone calls you stupid; you have the option — to answer or not to answer. You fall, you call them stupid back. Now both of you have fallen. You’ve entered the pattern: the spirit or the flesh.
The moment you yield to the flesh, you climb to another floor entirely. You’ve left the playing field. When you reply with “your mother is stupid,” you’ve crossed into another realm. Then the other person gets the same choice: to answer or not to answer. If they climb up too, now both of you are far from the spirit. By then, you’ve thrown off what the Bible calls “restraints.” You’ve removed the yoke of Jesus.
The yoke of Jesus is what stops us from entering the realm of the flesh. The more easily you enter that realm, the more you’re resisting His yoke. But the more you let His yoke rest on you, the more He controls and restrains you. He pulls you left, right, stops you, reminds you not to answer back. That’s the discipline of the Spirit — restraint under His control.
