The purpose of Satan’s attacks is to destroy your trust in God. The target is your faith.
How does God build faith? Through words. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)
That is why the enemy fights God’s word so aggressively. He wants you to despise the very thing that keeps you afloat.
Imagine someone sinking in the sea. Someone throws him a life vest. The vest is the one thing that can keep him above water. Then he pushes it away because he doesn’t like how it looks.
What exactly is supposed to happen next?
The life vest is faith. Trusting God is faith. Holding on when you cannot see is faith. *(Hebrews 11:1; 2 Corinthians 5:7)*
Yet many people reject the only thing that can keep them from sinking.
Job understood this.
He was surrounded by darkness. He lost things most people cannot imagine losing. Yet he stood there and declared: “After my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God.” *(Job 19:26)*
That is faith.
Not because everything looked good. Not because circumstances agreed. Not because evidence supported it.
Faith stood when everything else had fallen apart.
That little flicker of trust in the middle of darkness is what keeps a person alive spiritually.
The enemy wants you to abandon that trust. He wants you to look at your situation and conclude that God has failed.
But faith says something different.
Faith says, “I will see God.”
Faith says, “I will hold on.”
Faith says, “What God said remains true even when I cannot see it.”
That is the attitude believers must have. Not because darkness never comes. But because darkness does not get the final word.
