Repentance is not just an action. The Greek word metanoeo means change your mind. Change your thinking, and your life will change. God’s kindness, patience, and endurance are all intended to lead you to repentance. You encounter mercy when you’ve failed, patience when you expect judgment, and provision when you’re in need. All of this is to get you to acknowledge Him, to change your mind about Him, and to receive His kingdom.
Romans 2:4 says that God’s kindness leads to repentance. Many people ask, “If I was bad, would God have given me this? If I survived that tragedy, does it mean I am good?” That is foolish reasoning.
Even when you have experienced His kindness, you can still refuse to change your mind. Without changing how you think, you cannot be born again. Your mind must align with God’s truth. Accept the imperishable seed through His word, allow your thinking to be renewed, and your life will start to bear the fruit He intended.
God continually works to bring people to this point. Healing, help, mercy, and provision are all tools to show the reality of His kingdom and lead you to respond with repentance. You do not fully understand what it means to be born again until you recognize that the first birth is insufficient and the second is essential.
