Possible interpretation
These vines are wild vines which speak of entanglements and how different entanglements desire to trap us: people, thoughts, ideologies, society, and so on. They aim to entangle us and keep us trapped, and under the weight of the pressure that comes with worldliness. There’s confusion, a tangled mess of confusion, bondages and all sorts of things.
The old vines speak of the things that have been set in stone, old habits and thoughts that have become our nature, while the newer vines are the newer things we pick up. So is the state of man.
Jesus is here to free us from these things. However, many times we are not desperate enough for freedom. We don’t do as much as we should because we keep saying:
‘Oh, no, it’s so hard’.
We don’t do as much as we can to be free.
There’s a part that the Lord plays and there’s a part that we have to play.
Everything seeks to keep us bound; things we hear, see, think and these things seek to keep us bound but as we reach out to God, through desperation, and sincerity, we find that freedom is actually possible.
So simple things like; receive God’s help by getting born again, read your Bible, confess when you sin, keep good company, do not neglect the gathering of brethren etc. These are efforts that you can make towards your complete and total freedom, towards getting rid of mindsets and entanglement, bad company and so on.
Don’t be available for wrong friends and influences, always be in church when there’s a meeting that way, you are not available for bad company. These are the different things that God has made available for us to escape so we can follow the Sun of Righteousness, who appears with healing in his wings.
He heals our minds, experiences, and wounds we’ve gained over the years that want to entangle us and keep us under the weight of our pasts, mistakes and regrets.
And as we reach out in truthfulness, sincerity and desperation, we find that we actually can break free. So, there are our parts to play, and we must not underestimate that part, even as we look to Jesus.
And that part can only be done by looking to Jesus. You don’t look at yourself or your situation; you look to Jesus.
And no matter how much the entanglements try to call you back, or the devil comes and acts all harmless. Don’t listen. It’s not harmless.
You don’t look back; you incline your eyes to God’s words alone and keep reaching for the rising sun.
