Many problems in your life may trace back to things you said. Saul made a vow—“Whoever eats before evening will die”—and he said it with passion, trying to prove something. But his own son Jonathan, not hearing that vow, ate some honey. Later Saul found out, and because of his own words, he declared Jonathan must die.
That’s what happens when you speak rashly. People who don’t know how to obey superiors often overcompensate with strong words.
If you feel angry, go somewhere private, shout it out, cry if you must—but don’t speak carelessly. Because later, when you stand before God, He may remind you of what you said. You’ll ask, “Why did this happen?” and He’ll point to your own words.
Be slow to speak. Be quick to repent. And above all, adjust your ways now—before you’re forced to later.
