The Bible says to gird up the loins of your mind. (1 Peter 1:13).
Think about what a belt does. It tightens something that would otherwise be loose and flying around. That is what you are meant to do with your thoughts. You don’t allow your thoughts to just fly free.
When you face a battle, you are meant to get weapons. You don’t cry and say, “I can’t help it.” Fight.
That is one of the things that has helped me have victory for many years. God is faithful, but you also have to fight. When a wrong thought comes, don’t just sit there and entertain it. Replace the thought.
If you find yourself thinking spitefully about someone, start praying for that person. Put their name before you and pray in the Spirit. Instead of allowing your mind to continue going in the wrong direction, deliberately take control of what you are thinking about.
Your mind is a primary battleground. This is why you cannot afford to be careless with it.
You have to draw lines in your mind. If a picture comes into your mind, stop it. Reverse it. Keep stopping it until it becomes possible to stop it completely.
Many people try to think everything in their minds and then physically restrain themselves. But your primary battleground is your mind.
You have to learn to fight there.
Don’t say, “This is just how my mind works.” Don’t say, “I can’t help it.” Get weapons. Use the Word of God. Pray. Replace the thought. Take responsibility for what you allow your mind to entertain.
The mind can be redeemed. It can become a place where you practise obedience instead of a place where you entertain sin.
So gird up the loins of your mind. Tighten your thoughts. Don’t allow them to fly free. Fight!
