What Scripture Actually Says About Prophecy

Many people believe something that scripture never taught. They say New Testament prophecy is positive and different from Old Testament prophecy. But when you read the Bible, you see Paul, Peter, and John—the foremost apostles—giving warnings, speaking negative words, and exposing danger.

Paul said clearly that the Spirit speaks expressly that in the last days people will depart from the faith and follow deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons. Peter warned that false teachers will arise. John warned about antichrist and deception. Jesus Himself, in Matthew 24, gave warnings about the last days, and that chapter is not positive. It is direct and serious.

People say, “If anyone gives you a negative word, reject it.” If Paul stood here today, would we all say, “Paul, we reject you”? If Peter stood here warning about false teachers, would we reject Peter as well? Many people reject what scripture affirms because their filter is not the Bible.

Their filter is what a man of God said, someone’s complaints, or their own fears. When you read scripture through those filters, you do not see what God actually said.

Even Kenneth Hagin—who many claim taught that New Testament prophets cannot give negative words—gave multiple negative words, wrote them in his books, and shared stories of people God warned would die if they refused to repent. He wrote about people God sent him to warn, and he saw negative visions. How can someone read the same books and conclude that prophecy is only positive? It shows how filters work. When your filter is wrong, you distort what is right in front of you.
