Many people start walking in the gifts of the Spirit and then something happens to them. They begin to think they have outgrown the people who raised them.
They break away from their church. They break away from their discipler. They break away from the person who raised and taught them.
Suddenly somebody comes to them and says, “Man of God, I think a time has come for you to strike out on your own.”
And they say, “I really believe so. Look at the signs and wonders following my ministry.”
The person who was once calling, “Papa, how are you? How is your wife?” begins to speak differently. Their Pastor may call and say, “I wanted to talk to you about something. I was a bit troubled about something I saw.” And the response becomes, “I’ll get back to you.”
Then they disappear. They don’t want to be corrected.
Many of the disasters you hear about ten, twenty, or thirty years later had people gently speaking to them before everything exploded.
Someone was telling them, “It seems you’re too excited. Don’t you think you’re becoming too proud? Why don’t you stop? Pull aside. Stop everything. That thing you confessed to me—has it happened again?”
And instead of listening, they continue.
Sometimes their discipler may even say, “You’ll be destroyed. You have to stop for six months. Do nothing. Hand over to your assistant pastors.”
But they don’t want to hear it. They say, “Papa, you know I’ve always appreciated you and all that, but I’ll get back to you.”
That may have been ten years ago. Thirteen years ago. Twenty years ago.
Once in a while, they send airtime to Mama. They pull all these stunts before the thing explodes on the internet.
Before the whole world starts shaking, all this was already happening beneath.
Why? They thought the gun going “pow,” the dynamite going “boom,” and the signs and wonders meant authority.
That is not authority.
Don’t allow your gifting to make you proud enough to challenge your general.
