Not every prayer is wrong. Sometimes, the problem is that you are praying for the right thing at the wrong time.
God has a protocol. He has a proper time and procedure for every matter, and understanding this can save you from asking for things you are not yet prepared to receive.
Ecclesiastes 8:4–6 says, “Since the king’s word is supreme, who can say to him, ‘What are you doing?’ Whoever obeys his command will come to no harm, and the wise heart will know the proper time and procedure for every matter. For there is a proper time and procedure for every matter.”
There is a proper time and procedure for every matter.
In the spirit realm, we are in a court case. If it is not the proper time for you to be given something or relieved of something, there is a reason.
There is a time to pray. There is also a time not to pray for something.
For example, I don’t approve of people who tell children, “Start praying for your husband or your wife,” when they are seven years old. Instead of focusing on their character and dealing with issues like laziness, they are already praying about a future spouse.
Instead, pray for yourself: “Oh Lord, make me, in the future, a good husband. Make me, in the future, a good wife.” Then God can begin dealing with your character.
When it comes to praying about a spouse, some people may pray years before they meet that person. But in most cases, it makes more sense to begin praying specifically when you have met someone, and there is a possibility that the person may be the one.
This is an example to show you that you must have understanding. There is a proper time and procedure for every matter.
