The job of a proper shepherd/pastor is to feed God’s people with knowledge and understanding.
Jeremiah 3:15 says, “And I will give you shepherds according to my heart who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.”
A true pastor that watches over your soul is supposed to feed you not with empty words and quotes, but with knowledge and understanding. If you have knowledge and understanding, you will seek God for yourself. Your shepherd gives you the tips, feeds you, leads you to green pastures, and you eat and become strong and find energy to seek the Lord yourself.
You come to your shepherd so he leads you to the Lord. If you have a shepherd who does not lead you to the Lord, stop following him. Where is he leading you to?
You notice he’s leading you to his bedroom, leading you to his farm, leading you to his own will for his own benefit, leading you to his crowd, leading you to his workforce, leading you to build his name and make him known to the ends of the earth. Don’t follow anymore.
If he is not teaching you how to get closer to God more and more constantly, if he is not encouraging you and pushing you to go meet the Lord, you have entered a trap.
