Paul said in Ephesians 1:16, “Making mention of you in my prayers.”
Now look at the prayer. “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; the eyes of your understanding being enlightened.”
This is the prayer God wants you to pray.
I personalized this prayer in 1998. This is what I prayed every day. I didn’t pray for money. I didn’t pray for jobs. I didn’t pray for a spouse. I was not praying for anything else. I was praying this one prayer:
“Oh Lord my God, grant me a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of you. That the eyes of my understanding may be enlightened.”
Your understanding has eyes. The eyes of your understanding being enlightened is that you have understanding, you can see. “I understand. This is how to pray.”
When you come into understanding, you know what the hope of His calling is. You know what the hope He called you for is. You understand what Christianity is about.
That is what understanding does to you over time. It connects, and keeps on doing so. You can view scripture from all angles and they fit perfectly.
Part of having the eyes of your understanding enlightened is that as you’re praying, God begins to show you things. You’re just there one day, and then He tells you something, the Spirit keeps telling you, “Resign.”
There is a price you pay for walking with God and coming into understanding. But you don’t decide the price yourself. You inquire what price you are to pay.
That’s part of what you’re asking for when you pray that the eyes of your understanding may be enlightened.
