Today, I felt reluctant to go evangelising, but I fought the feeling [and went]! I first went to check on the children I had spoken to last week, but they weren’t home. So, I decided to walk around that area and look for someone else to speak to. I saw a young girl sitting outside a house in the next compound. When I got to where she was, I asked her if I could speak to her about Jesus and she said I could. Her name was C and she should be about 6-8 years old. I asked her if she knew who Jesus was, and she said she didn’t. I was surprised and asked if she goes to church and she said that she does. I also asked her if they spoke about Jesus in her church and she said they did.

Prior to this, I didn’t know how to talk to children about God — this season has been training for me! [From about September 2020, the Lord kept emphasising that the children are a part of His army; we should take them very seriously and get them prepared to fight!] So, here I was, trying to explain to this little girl who Jesus was. I told her He is the Son of God, and using an analogy that she could relate to, I explained that He is our Saviour and that He saved us from sin. I kept asking if she understood what I was saying, and she kept saying she did. She was very shy, and I could barely hear her speak.

During my time there, her mother scolded her and I could see she was scared. After the drama, she returned to sit beside me and asked me to continue. I spoke to her about Jesus wanting to be her friend, and that He knows her name and everything about her. I asked her if she wanted to be His friend and she said she wanted to. So, I prayed with her and led her to Christ! I also told her that Jesus could speak to her through different means. When we finished the prayer, I asked her if she saw anything and she said she didn’t. I spoke to her about the angels rejoicing because she gave her life to the Lord.

As I got up to leave, I noticed that she was giving me a strange look so I asked her why she was doing so. I jokingly asked her if I was glowing, and she told me I was. I asked her to tell me the truth, and she said it was so. I asked her if I was shining like a bright light. She said yes. Then, I asked her one more time and she told me that she was saying the truth. I believed her and was about to leave when she told me to go to a certain compound, that there were children there. I asked her if I should preach to them too, and she told me that I should.

I wanted to continue moving but I decided to stop by the compound she had told me about. I saw three children playing on the veranda, and I told them that I wanted to speak to them. The children’s mother came out and I discovered that she had been my teacher in primary school, and her older daughter had been my classmate. The mother asked me where I worshipped and when I responded, she told me to come in and speak with them. Unlike C, the first girl I spoke to, these three children were very open and outspoken. The older girl was about 11 years old; the younger boy was about 9 years old, and with them was a baby girl who wouldn’t stay still. I spoke to them about being close to God. I also told them the Lord Jesus advised His disciples to be like children, and told them that God was deeply interested in children.

We read from 1 Samuel 3, and they were so interested in the supernatural! I explained to them how Christ abides in our hearts, and we are to abide in Him. I also told them about God’s love, and how He wants to relate with every one of His children, not just with pastors. I told them the story of the children that prayed in a hospital and miracles occurred. I also told them of a four-year-old child in my church [God’s Lighthouse] who sees visions whenever we pray/worship.

The boy confessed that his mom had told him he used to see visions when he was little and the older girl told me that she had strange dreams. The boy also said that he sometimes has these flashes of people in black — it’s like he sees them and suddenly, they aren’t there. His older sister gave a reply that implied they were evil, but I told her black itself isn’t necessarily evil; God can use familiar images to speak with us. He asked if red was an evil colour too, but I explained to him why people felt it was. The baby was just everywhere, looking for every means to go play with sand – and she succeeded. We brought her back to the tiled floor. I prayed with them and encouraged them to read their Bibles more and be obedient. I also told them about keeping a journal [as I had been taught during the last God’s Army Mobilizing: Children’s Unit Meeting on Saturday] and that praise is a weapon that children will use. I told them about Psalm 8:2 and told them to read it later. I bade them farewell and headed towards my abode.

On the way, I saw one of the girls that took me there in the first place! I checked on her and asked if she read her Bible. She said no, but her younger sister had. She told me what she had learnt from Matthew 6:8-11. I encouraged them further and went home.
