Don’t Bury Your Gift

When Jesus told the parable of the servant who hid his master’s talent, He called him wicked and lazy. Why? Because to bury a gift is wickedness. To use your gift requires the fruit of the Spirit — love, patience, diligence — and it takes effort.

You can’t say you love God and hide what He placed inside you. Even if you don’t go out into the world with it, you should at least use it in the church. That’s like putting money in the bank; at least it gains some interest. But when you bury it, it produces nothing.

If your gift is to teach, then teach. If you can encourage others, do it. If you have a prophetic gift, don’t keep it to yourself. In our church, those with prophetic giftings learn to use it through prayer and intercession, staying behind after meetings to pray for others. That’s trading in the spirit — using what God gave you to produce more.

When you hide your gift, you lose it. When you use it, you grow. The Lord rewards faithfulness, not comfort. You were never meant to be worthless; you were meant to be useful.
